Our Story

Joe Weider was firmly convinced that physical training, a healthy diet and sufficient rest were the three pillars of a happy and fulfilled life. He then had a firm vision: he wanted to help the people of this world to live a happier and more fulfilled life by imparting his knowledge about the importance of sport, nutrition and rest. In order to turn his plans into reality, Joe founded the Weider empire in 1936 and thus became a pioneer of the fitness movement as we know it today.

Joe Weider also made a name for himself as a “Trainer of Champions”, with Arnold Schwarzenegger certainly being his most famous protégé. The biggest bodybuilding competition in the world still bears the name “Joe Weider’s Mr. Olympia”.

Today, the name WEIDER is synonymous with health, fitness and bodybuilding. Joe Weider's mission has been continued for over 85 years - by continuing to offer innovative and effective sports nutrition of the best possible quality.

1936

The birth of WEIDER

The birth of Weider - with the founding of Weider Nutrition, the Weider brand becomes the pioneer of an entire fitness movement and the first sports nutrition brand in the world

1946

The Weider brothers founded the IFBB

The brothers Joe and Ben Weider founded the International Fitness and BodyBuilding Federation , today better known by the abbreviation IFBB, and thus the global contact point for bodybuilding to this day.

1965

Joe founds Mr. Olympia

Joe Weider starts the Mr. Olympia contest, which quickly becomes the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world.

From 1970

WEIDER® is expanding internationally

After the expansion into Japan in 1970, Weider SL was founded in Madrid in 1986 to facilitate entry into the European market. Taiwan followed in 2000, completing WEIDER®'s Asian expansion and growing into the leading brand in the field of bodybuilding & fitness.

2003

founding of WEIDER Germany GmbH

Founding of Weider Germany GmbH, which brings Joe's basic idea to Europe and has since developed into a leading brand in the German fitness and health market.

2006

induction into Venice Muscle Beach Hall of Fame

On Labor Day 2006, Joe Weider was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Venice Muscle Beach Hall of Fame. Schwarzenegger emphasized Weider's influence on his bodybuilding career.

2014

induction into the International Sports Hall of Fame

In addition to world stars such as Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe, Ben and Betty Weider were also inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame, which has set itself the task of honoring exceptional achievements and commitment to sport and physical culture. Joe Weider's induction was posthumous to properly honor his life's work and his enormous influence on the fitness and bodybuilding world.
